Calcium hypochlorite is a white granular solid (or tablets made from compressed granules) that has a chlorine odor.

Toxic and irritating to skin.

Not flammable, but will accelerate the burning of combustibles.

Prolonged exposure to fire or heat may cause violent decomposition of the material and rupture of the container.

If the diluted sample contains less than 39% available chlorine, the above reaction may occur, but will take longer to engage and the reaction will be less vigorous.

Applications

Calcium hypochlorite dissolves in water and releases HCIO hypochlorite, which acts on the protein of pathogen, denaturing the protein and causing death. At the same time, hypochlorous acid is stable, easy to decompose into atomic oxygen, atomic oxygen has strong oxidation, can oxidize pathogen proteins and kill pathogens; Hypochlorous acid can also decompose and release chlorine gas (CI), which directly acts on the protein of bacteria, denaturating the protein and killing it.
